Welcome to Detroit!
The Motor City is #2 for most races held in Supercross history and has a rich legacy in the sport going back to 1976 when Supercross first visited the Pontiac Silverdome. After nearly three decades, the race moved to Detroit’s Ford Field in 2006 (28 miles SE).
For all-time venue leaders, iconic moments and race results…
Malcolm Stewart’s Win
So much has been said (and felt) surrounding Malcolm Stewart’s first win. And with good reason: in the 763 races run since 1974, just 69 different riders have won at the premier level, making it a small enough fraternity that every one of those winners could fit into a standard-sized school bus (three to a seat! eyes forward!)
The Factory ‘Connection’
Five years ago this October, GEICO Honda Factory Connection shut down its team after 23 racing seasons. The strong pipeline the team built, however, still fuels the top of the sport. Check this out:
Cooper Webb – East vs. West
Cooper Webb averaged a 4.3 finish through the first 4 rounds, which were all west coast events. This is an exception in his career stats.
Disastrous Detroit Weekends
Speaking of…The last few years have seen some relatively disastrous moments for many riders. Here’s a quick rundown…
Max Anstie – 5th Oldest 250 Winner
Long before Mike LaRocco, Justin Brayton, Marvin Musquin, or Kevin Windham, there was another ‘old guy’ that won a lot of races: John Dowd.
“Junkyard” John Dowd (AKA Dowdy) won 8 races after turning 30 (1996-98). Seven of those wins were in the small bike class and 1 of those wins was in the premier class.
