2025 Anaheim 2 Supercross Research

By Brett Smith

Welcome (back) to Angel Stadium!

This weekend’s round 2 of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship is the 85th time a race has been held in Anaheim and, more specifically, it will be the 26th time we’ve visited for an ‘A2’.

Five different riders have won A2 3 times – Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed, James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, aaaannndddd Eli Tomac (2018 Triple Crown, 2020, and 2022).

In Tomac’s 2020 victory, he went from 10th to 1st in 8 laps in a quintessential Beast Mode ride. A fourth victory would be yet another milestone in his legendary career.

But Cooper Webb (2), Chase Sexton (1), and Ken Roczen (1) have also won an A2.

Parity, Again

Last year, we had 8 different main event winners (450 and 250 classes) through 4 rounds. It wasn’t until round 5 in Detroit that Jett Lawrence ended that streak.

This year is no different – the parity party continues! Not only have we seen 4 different main event winners, we’ve not yet had a single repeat fastest qualifier, heat, LCQ, or main event winner.

Chase Sexton’s Speed – Solved!?

Entering the 2025 season, Chase’s second and final season of his current KTM contract, the question was whether he’d solved the bike setting ‘issues’ and would find his 2023 speed (14x fastest qualifier, 8x fastest in the mains).

The early answer = yes. The worst his speed has ranked on the track is 4th (A1 heat race) AND he’s figured out the power delivery with top 5 white line position at both rounds.

Julien Beaumer vs Haiden Deegan

The 18 year old KTM-mounted Julien Beaumer has emerged as a title favorite in his sophomore season. He doesn’t have the fanfare or following of Haiden Deegan, but he’s got the speed and most importantly, the red plate for the first time in his career.

Notably, Deegan has never held the red plate in Supercross.

Talented Teenagers

We covered the age trend for the premier class in the Anaheim 1 preview. That showed winners are getting older and that trend is here to stay even with the emergence of Jett Lawrence. In the 250 West region, we’re seeing the potential for the opposite trend with the emergence of a crop of talented teenagers!
