The titans of Supercross return to the epicenter of Supercross racing in America – Angel Stadium – for the opening round of 2025 SuperMotocross. Does Jett Lawrence become the first to win back-to-back openers since Justin Barcia three-peated 2019-2021? Does Eli Tomac win for the 11th consecutive season? Does Ken Roczen tie Jeremy McGrath for most Anaheim 1 wins?
2025 A1 Winner: Chase Sexton
Anaheim 1 winner Chase Sexton had a near perfect night; heat race win, led 17 laps of the 20-lap main and set the overall fastest time of the race to win his 10th career 450SX. It’s also the first opening round SX win ever for Sexton.
Ken Roczen got what he wanted. Pre-race, he claimed he wanted a 2nd place at A1 since winning (four prev. times) had “never resulted in anything”. After a 49th career heat race win, he finished 2nd, his 70th career 450SX podium. Jason Anderson took third.
2025 A1 250SX West Winner: Jo Shimoda
Jo Shimoda had never even landed on the podium at a 250SX season opener (10-4-7-4-4 finishes) but he’s now an A1 winner in his 6th season in the 250SX division. Shimoda led all 15 laps and set the fastest lap of the main on his way to his 3rd career victory.
Julien Beaumer earned 2nd, his first career podium (11th start), finishing -4.7 to Shimoda. Jordon Smith, in his first race with Triumph, gave the British marque its first ever SX podium.
Anaheim 1 2025: Jett Lawrence: 12th!
Jett Lawrence finished 12th at the opening round of the 2025 Supercross series, the worst finish of his 450SX career and the most disastrous start of a title defense since Eli Tomac finished 13th at Houston 1 in 2021.
Lawrence locked bars with Jason Anderson coming into the first turn and got hung up on a Tuff Block. Then he collided with Joey Savatgy and crashed in the sand. Even after remounting, Lawrence seemed off. His fastest lap time was 1.7 seconds slower than winner, Chase Sexton’s.
