By Brett Smith

This bonus episode of the We Went Fast podcast is Marty Smith’s last interview: Part 1.

David Dewhurst did this interview at Marty’s house just two weeks before he and his wife died in a dune buggy accident at the Glamis Sand Dunes

The interview was for research in the making of “Motocross: The Golden Era”, a book now available at It ships free to customers in the United States.

Among many other accolades, Marty was the first ever 125MX Pro Motocross Champion, a title he won in 1974 and repeated in 1975. He was also considered the first superstar of American Motocross.

I can’t stress enough what a masterpiece this book is and Dewhurst’s photographic talent shines within it. Check it out at
