Fast Fact: All-Time Moto Wins Streaks

By Brett Smith

“That’s what we want to see right there. I love to see the stats.”

Sitting in a meeting room inside the Pala Resort & Casino in Pala, Calif., Jett Lawrence got a glimpse of a We Went Fast database chart that compared his moto 1 and moto 2 stats from the 2023 Pro Motocross season.

With a perfect 22-0 season, it wouldn’t seem like there’s much left to extract but it showed how ridiculously consistent he was in several of each moto’s key metrics: holeshots, average first lap position and laps led.

With 22 straight motos won in 2023, Lawrence’s streak will carry into 2024. He currently has the 4th longest moto win streak in 450MX. If he sweeps at Pala, he’ll tie James Stewart for third. Stewart’s own streak ended when he didn’t race the 2009 Pro MX season.

Ricky Carmichael continues to top the charts with two different streaks extending more than 30 motos.

If Lawrence wins through moto two at Southwick, he would pass Carmichael for the longest 450MX moto wins streak in Pro Motocross history.

When asked about it, he pays reverence to Stewart and Carmichael but speaks with the confidence of a champion. “There’s a reason why those records are there. They’re supposed to be broken.”

Lawrence stops short of putting a claim on the records. He says that goals are important but he chooses his words with measured calculation.

“But am I going to have a shot at it? Hell yeah.”

In just one 450MX season, Jett Lawrence landed in 18th place on the all-time overall moto wins list in 450MX. He needs 17 more moto wins to tie into the top 10. Another perfect season would put him into 8th.

The all-time moto wins list chart is in this week’s Shop Rag, the research companion that We Went Fast Garage Members get access to every Thursday.
