Does Eli Tomac Go To 11?

By Brett Smith

Tomac has won for 10 straight years. No rider has ever won for 11.

Most fans would love to see Eli Tomac win a third career Monster Energy Supercross Championship. That’s a safe assumption. He’d join the small club of triple champ greats (just six riders).

But here’s a milestone that’s a bit (ahem) easier to obtain and he wouldn’t have to wait until May to get it done:

Eli Tomac’s 450SX career stats entering 2025

Just one win means he’d become the only rider in sport history to win a 450SX main for 11 straight years. Tomac could own this record shortly after the sun goes down on January 11, 2025.

When Tomac won the 2024 St. Louis Triple Crown, he not only extended his hold as the second winningest rider in Supercross history, he tied James Stewart as the only other rider to win for 10 straight seasons.

Stewart won his 50th, and final, Supercross in 2014*, one year before Tomac won his first.

There’s a LOT that makes this specific stat impressive…

  • Longevity is not common in this sport and 2025 will be Tomac’s 12th 450SX season.
  • Ricky Carmichael (7 450SX championship years) and Ryan Villopoto (6 450SX seasons) were among the best, but they still acknowledge how much the stress and pressure of winning races and titles takes a toll.
  • Tomac has missed just 12 of 187 races since he became a full-time 450SX rider and 8 of those DNRs were from his rookie season (2014), which saw him get a late start because of injury.
  • Winning. Only 68 riders have won a race in the history of the sport.

I believe I am in a better position than the year before

–Eli Tomac

It’s guaranteed that Eli Tomac will retire as the second winningest rider in Supercross history. By the end of 2025, he could also stand in second on the podiums list (needs 11 more).

But what anyone would love to see first is Tomac win another race. And that would put him alone on a very exclusive list.

Notable facts from 2024…
  • 4th overall after returning from an 2023 Achilles injury.
  • The St. Louis win was his eighth Triple Crown win in 17 Triple Crown starts (he’s the only rider in history to race all the TC events).
  • Also in St Louis: earned his 217th podium (SX+MX, all classes), for 1st all-time in that category. He starts 2025 with 219 career podiums.
  • St Louis was his 52nd Supercross win, extending his record for 2nd most all-time Supercross wins.
  • His second place in Nashville (round 15) was his 101st 450SX podium – tying him with Ryan Dungey for 3rd all-time on that list.

*Acknowledgement: James Stewart was unable to race in 2015, what would have been his 11th consecutive 450SX season. Starting in June 2014, he served a 16-month long banned substance-related suspension ordered by the FIM.
