Can Jason Anderson Be a Factor Again?
By
El Hombre is on a 34 race winless streak.
Thirty one year old Jason Anderson hasn’t won a 450SX since he closed out 2022 with four straight victories as a 29 year old in his first year with Kawasaki.
Can the soon-to-be 32-year-old find that magic once again? At Media Days in December, he said he’s committed to racing through 2027, which would see his racing career close when his daughter goes to Kindergarten.
“I can’t carry the load I used to,” he said. “You have to be honest, but you also have to be right. Data is changing everything.”
The easy data says he’s riding a 34 race drought, yet it is NOT the longest winless streak in his 450SX career, which began in 2015.
After winning the 2018 Atlanta Supercross (and eventually the championship), Anderson didn’t win again until Oakland 2022; that’s nearly four years and he competed in 45 races during that time (60 races were held but he missed most of 2019 and one round in 2021.
El Hombre is realistic and knows his strengths: “Out of 17 venues there’s seven where I know I can podium,” he said. “Others I’ll luck into a podium. Indy is really, really tough for me. St Louis I’m fine there.” (don’t tell him there’s not St. Louis Supercross in 2025).
Notable Anderson facts from 2024…
- 5th overall in points (he tied with Eli Tomac for 4th overall but lost the tiebreak on wins).
- 4 podium finishes.
- Fastest Qualifier in Glendale, his 5th straight year with at least one Fastest Qualifier win. That is the longest streak for an active rider.
- Fastest overall rider at the A2 triple crown (4-1-8) Race finishes.
- Consistent: He finished top five 11 times. Only Jett Lawrence, Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton had more top five finishes.
- Career 450SX race starts: 151. Only 7 riders in SX history have lined up for 200 450SX mains To crack the 200 mark, he could only afford to miss two races over the next three seasons.
