Round 21: Mount Morris, PA’s High Point Raceway

Situated in a valley on a family farm in southwestern Pennsylvania and just 18 miles north of the MX Sports headquarters, High Point Raceway has been a cornerstone of the Pro Motocross schedule since 1977.

Combined 450 & 250 Facts

  • Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan each have a +25 lead after 3 rounds. The last time both classes had leaders with a full moto’s points gap after 3 rounds was 2010 (Pourcel +27, Dungey +25)
  • May 28, 2022 @ Fox Raceway was the last time a single OEM swept all 4 motos of a Pro Motocross (Chase Sexton, 450; Jett Lawrence, 250). At TVMX, Lawrence and Chance Hymas gave Honda another 1-1-1-1.
  • While the same five 450 riders have finished top overall (in different orders) at the first 3 rounds, only Haiden Deegan has been top five overall at each round in the 250 class.

450MX Facts

  • Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence have combined to win 5 of the last 6 High Point Nationals.
  • Jett Lawrence has yet to lose a 450 moto at High Point (he’s 4/4)
  • Jett Lawrence is the only rider to be on every single moto podium in 2025.
  • Jason Anderson has 5 podiums in 6 High Point starts (most recent pod. was 2022).
  • On the combined Pro Motocross all-time wins list, Jett Lawrence is now solo in 9th place (32). He broke his tie with Ryan Villopoto. A 33rd win ties him with Rick Johnson for 8th.
  • Five different riders have holeshot the six motos run so far. In 2024, 7 different riders earned holeshots over 22 motos.
  • Five different riders have led laps in 2025, which is notable because only 6 different riders led laps in all of 2024.

250MX Facts

  • Chance Hymas (Thunder Valley) and Haiden Deegan (Hangtown) each recorded their first perfect days in 250MX: Fastest Qualifier, and 1-1 moto sweeps. More on perfect days below.
  • Chance Hymas was the first 250 rider in 10 years to holeshot both motos and lead every lap at a single Pro Motocross (Jeremy Martin, TVMX 2015).
  • Haiden Deegan’s +25 points lead is the biggest lead after 3 rds. since Jeremy Martin in 2014 (+26). In 2024, Deegan had a +23 lead.
  • Hymas has taken 4 of the 6 holeshots in 2025.
  • Haiden Deegan is now the only 250 rider to finish top 5 every moto in 2025. Jo Shimoda finished 9th in TVMX M.1.
  • Haiden Deegan has yet to holeshot a moto in 2025.
  • Garrett Marchbanks’ 3rd in moto 1 was his first moto podium in the 250 class. It was his 60th moto start.
  • Drew Adams (5-34) got a career best (career first) top 5 moto at Thunder Valley
  • Casey Cochran got a season best 6th place in moto 2 at TVMX.
  • 10 different riders have won the last 10 High Point Nationals. Ty Masterpool is the only rider on the line who could end that streak.

SMX Points Battle

Aaron Plessinger is on pace to be the SMX Points leader when the checkered flag flies at round 28 in Maryland. Assuming he continues to average 39 points per round (~3rd per moto), he’ll pass Justin Cooper and Cooper Webb for the points lead at the second to last round at his home race in Indiana.

Assumptions:

  • Cooper Webb averages a 6th place moto finish the remainder of the season
  • Justin Cooper averages a 4th place moto finish the remainder of the season
Hell yeah, brother! Aaron Plessinger is on pace to be the #1 seed heading into the SuperMotocross World Championships. Photo: Garth Milan.

Other Notable Changes:

  • Jett Lawrence likely to move from 9th to 5th. He’d enter the final 3 SMX World Championship Finals races -8 points behind Aaron Plessinger.
  • Eli Tomac likely to move from 10th to 7th. Eli would be -10 points behind Aaron Plessinger.
  • Hunter Lawrence likely to move from 15th to 8th. Hunter would be -11 points behind Aaron Plessinger.
SMX Points Chase

Final thoughts…

  • We have Chase Sexton returning at Red Bud and averaging 3rd per moto. That’d put him and Jett Lawrence at the exact same 603 points.
  • Remember the SuperMotocross points escalates single/double/triple over the 3 rounds. There’s no clinching early and you can make up significant ground in the final two rounds.

There’s still 16 motos and 400 points to earn. One things for certain, if the results continue as they have the first 3 rounds of Pro Motocross, we’re in for an epic SuperMotocross points battle.

Jett Lawrence Enters Top 10

In just 19 450 starts (18 wins), Jett Lawrence has entered the top 10 on the all-time premier class wins list.

  • Ricky Carmichael AND Ryan Dungey each won 12 of their first 19 starts
  • Two more wins ties Jett with James Stewart and Jeff Stanton
  • If the win streak continues, he could tie Jeff Ward (6th) at Unadilla.
  • In single moto wins, Jett is also tied with Kent Howerton (33) for 11th all-time.

Eli Tomac Tops All-Time Podiums List

Eli Tomac’s 2nd overall at Thunder Valley gave him sole possession of first on the combined premier class podiums list, bumping Chad Reed out of the lead.

  • While Tomac leads the combined list, he’s 3rd in SX and 2nd in MX
  • He needs 10 more podiums to tie Ricky Carmichael in Motocross
  • He needs 30 more podiums to tie Chad Reed (leader) in Supercross
  • Perspective: Jett Lawrence has 29 podiums in the 450 class (again, MX+SX). He’s 39th on the list.

Sweep The Leg, Jett!

Just when it seems like there are no other ways to illustrate Jett Lawrence’s unbelievable mastery in the 450 class, here’s a new metric: 1-1 sweeps.

  • In just 19 rounds started, Lawrence has amassed 15 (1-1) days.
  • One more and he ties James Stewart on the chart below.
  • Context: In his first 19 starts, Ricky Carmichael had 7 (1-1) sweeps.
  • Carmichael reached 15 sweeps at Round 6 2002 (his 29th start)
Most Premier Class Sweeps

Most 450 Podiums with NO Win.

Last week Aaron Plessinger was highlighted as a former 250 champion still looking for his first 450 moto win (so close again!).

  • Plessinger is (unfortunately) climbing another chart of unwanted honors: most 450 podiums with no OVERALL win.
  • And Hunter Lawrence, who only has 14 450 starts, is climbing it right along with him.

The Perfect Day: Chance Hymas

One year after winning his first Pro Motocross moto (Thunder Valley Moto 2) and 11 months after his first overall win (Red Bud), Chance Hymas, 20, won his second 250MX overall with a perfect day: Fastest Qualifier, won moto 1, won moto 2 (and, of course, the overall).

  • It was actually the second perfect day this season, because Haiden Deegan did this at Hangtown on May 31.
  • Before that, however, it had been almost three years since a 250 rider posted a perfect day (see chart below)
250MX: Recent Perfect Days
  • LOOKING FORWARD: the last time there were three consecutive perfect days in the 250 class was in 2013 when Eli Tomac did it all on his own at Spring Creek, Unadilla and Miller Motorsports Park.
  • 2013 was also the last time there were 3 perfect days in a single season.
  • In the 142 MX rounds held (2013-2025) only 16 riders have had perfect days.
At Thunder Valley 2025, Chance Hymas had THE most perfect day a rider could have in Pro Motocross. Photo: Align Media

Extra kudos to Hymas, however, because at Thunder Valley he went above and beyond the perfect day:

  • Topped both qualifying sessions and was Fastest Qualifier by +1.131 over Haiden Deegan.
  • Holeshot and led every single lap of moto 1
  • Holeshot and led every single lap of moto 2.

Not even Jett Lawrence pulled that one off in 250. At Southwick 2022 he came close; he missed ONE lap as the leader. He fell on lap 3 of moto 1 (less than 100-ft. from the finish!) He was back in the lead by the end of lap 4.

Hymas in 2025:
  • 4 holeshots in 6 motos started
  • 2 moto wins, 1 overall win
  • 3 moto podiums, 1 overall podium
  • Brutally, he’s already -49 points in the championship standings (4th) after scoring just 9 points at Hangtown (missed moto 2 with food poisoning).
  • He could go 1-1 the rest of the season and still not win the title (if Deegan finishes 2nd each moto).
  • After 3 rounds in 2024, he was -23 points.
  • SMX Next: 2 starts in MX (1 win), 4 SX starts (3 wins, 4 podiums)
