Does experience prevail at the 2024 Indianapolis Supercross or does Jett Lawrence ‘tick another box’, as his father, Darren likes to say of achieving small goals and stamping milestones on the way to championships?

For the first time in Triple Crown history, Indianapolis plays host to the three race format, which has been dominated by two riders in six seasons of use.

Combined, Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb have won 11 of the 15 Triple Crown races held, which started in 2018. Webb has won two of the last three Triple Crown overalls and Tomac has taken nearly one third (14/45) of the individual Races (TC 1, 2 or 3).

Jett Lawrence, meanwhile, still has some gremlins to squash from his TC history. In his five career TC starts (4 in 250SX and 1 in 450SX), he’s had crashes in six of the individual races. The good news in the 250 class is that he was still able to leave with four podium finishes (one of them, a win).

His only 450SX TC start so far (Anaheim 2, 2024) ended with a painful lesson in patience; dropping two positions on the LAST LAP of TC Race three (2nd to 4th) cost him FOUR spots in the overall (and six championship points) because of the way the three-race math worked out.

Indianapolis is the second of three Triple Crown events (St. Louis is the third). Here’s a brief on what happened at Anaheim 2 (round 4).

Cooper Webb took the win without winning a single race (2-2-5). Eli Tomac (5-7-1) and Aaron Plessinger (6-4-3) rounded out the podium.

  • Jett Lawrence finished 6th overall after finishing 7-3-4 in the individual races, but it was a crash with just one lap remaining in the third race that cost him six championships points. When he fell, he went from second to fourth. But in the overall, since four other riders were so close in overall points, he went from second to sixth! Note: he also crashed just after the start in race 1.

  • Eli Tomac led all 14 laps of TC 3 and served notice that he was building momentum and got his second podium of the year.
