2026 Seattle Supercross Research

By Brett Smith

Welcome to Seattle!

The Emerald city is one of the original Supercross markets, dating back to the expansion years of the late 1970s. It’s a top five market for most SX races held all-time thanks to an 11 year string of doubleheaders in the Kingdome. In 2005 the Seattle Supercross moved into the open air Lumen Field.

  • The first 33 Seattle rounds were held between 1978-1999 in the now demolished Kingdome.
  • This year’s event will be the 18th running of SX in Lumen Field (first race, 2005).
  • Cooper Webb won the 2025 and 2024 races.
  • The last rider to win 3 in a row in Seattle: James Stewart (2005-2007)
  • Ricky Johnson is the all-time Seattle Supercross wins leader (7)
  • The last time the Seattle Supercross was held in February: Feb. 1, 1997 (Kingdome)
  • The last time the Seattle Supercross was held on Valentine’s Day: 1988 (Seattle 2)
  • Ryan Dungey won the last Supercross held on Valentine’s Day (Arlington, 2015)

450 Rider Facts

  • 4 different winners / 4 different OEMs
  • Jorge Prado is the first rider not Eli Tomac or Chase Sexton to be fastest qualifier this season.
  • Hunter Lawrence is now the only 450 rider to be in the top 5 at every round.
  • Season highs: Justin Cooper (4th), Justin Hill (10th), Garrett Marchbanks (13th) and Shane Mcelrath (15th)
  • Yamaha’s last heat win was Pittsburgh 2025 (rd. 15)
  • Four different winners in the last 4 rounds. The last time we had 5 different winners in 5 rounds was 2024 (rds. 2-6)
  • Mr. Consistent: Dylan Ferrandis has gone 9-9-11-10-9 this season. He said he was sick coming into Glendale and missed most of the first qualifying session after getting struck by a rock, which required stitches above his eyebrow.

250 Rider Facts

  • 2022 was the most recent time 250SX West started a season with 6 consecutive rounds.
  • Even with his slow start, Levi Kitchen’s average lap time was .117 seconds faster than Haiden Deegan’s at Glendale.
  • Kitchen’s Kryptonite was that he lost 11.521 seconds to Deegan in the first 3 laps (gate drop to end of L.3)
  • Kitchen’s average L.1 position (across all 7 gate drops) is now 12.8.
  • Kitchen post race: “You would think at my level I would know how to do a start but, it’s not great so I gotta figure it out”
  • Levi Kitchen has yet to win a heat race, has only led 10 laps and has a net position change (after L.1) of +37.
  • Haiden Deegan has won 4 races (SX or MX) in a row for the first time in his career.
  • It’s been 19 years since a rider won 5 250SX races in row (Ryan Villopoto, 2007)
  • Avery Long (9th) tied his career best finish (Anaheim 1 2026)
  • Hunter Yoder was 7th in Glendale, equaling his best career finish. He’s now finished 7th in both a main and a Triple Crown.

Jeremy McGrath held the points lead for 105 rounds in his career.

Red Plate History

With Hunter Lawrence taking over the series points lead, there has now been 47 different riders that have led a premier class Supercross series. Hunter is the first new rider to hold a red plate since Aaron Plessinger took hold of the series in 2024 at Round 3 in San Diego.

Top 10 All-Time Series Points Leaders

Hunter Lawrence Leads Without A Win

Beyond the fact that Hunter Lawrence leading the series is the first time that brothers have accomplished the task in the premier class, he’s also one of a short list of riders to lead a series without a win in that year. It’s also especially rare to lead a series without having ever won at all!

Points Leaders, No Wins Yet In Season
  • Hunter Lawrence is 1 of only 12 riders to lead the series without having won a race in the season.
  • Ken Roczen is the only rider to have done so more than once. He’s held the red plate in 2019, 2021, and 2025 and had yet to win in those seasons.
Points Leaders, No Wins Yet In Career
  • Hunter Lawrence is 1 of 2 riders in the history of the premier class that have led the championship and not yet won a race in their career.

Latest Round for First Win and Then Win Championship

Riders who win Supercross championships overwhelmingly win at least once within the first three rounds. Only four times in SX history has a rider waited until round 6 or later to get a first win and still clinch the title.

7th Round
  • 1985 – Jeff Ward
  • 1992 – Jeff Stanton
6th Round
  • 1989 – Jeff Stanton
  • 2025 – Cooper Webb

2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd

Hunter Lawrence has the red plate via lots and lots of 2nd place finishes – 4 consecutive rounds. Lawrence has 5 career runner-up finishes.

Australians Unite!
  • The last rider to finish 2nd five rounds in a row was Chad Reed in 2009. Reed, the defending champ, finished runner-up 7 weekends in a row (rounds 2-8).
  • The main difference between Reed and Lawrence is that Reed finished 2nd to the same rider all 7 weekends (James Stewart)
  • Hunter Lawrence has finished second to a different rider over the past four rounds.
Most Consecutive Runner-Up Finishes
Most Runner-ups, no 450SX wins (Updated!)

Hunter Lawrence earned his 5th career 450SX runner up finish at Glendale. While all signs point to “HJ” becoming the 70th winner in 450SX history, he continues to climb this inglorious chart.

Ken Roczen’s HoF Career

We talk a lot about Eli Tomac’s all-time career, but Ken Roczen’s not too far behind. While the big glaring hole is a premier class Supercross title, Kenny has built a Hall of Fame worthy career. By the end of this season, he’ll rank top 10 in 3 of 4 key major statistical categories and with 3 more wins it’s possible to be top 10 in all 4 categories.

Consecutive Seasons w/Win
  • His 24th career victory in Glendale (11th all-time) was an impressive ride and that makes it 7 consecutive seasons (across 11 total) that he’s won. That’s 7th longest streak.

Most Years with a 450SX Win
  • Ken Roczen is just 1 of 3 riders to win at least 1 race in 11 different seasons.

Deegan Continues to Dominate

4 wins in a season is not entirely amazing when you consider that’s been accomplished 19 different times in the history of 125/250 Supercross (last was Hunter Lawrence in 2023). But winning 4 in a row the way he has is impressive.

  • Most wins (4 of 5 rounds)
  • Most podiums (4 of 5 rounds)
  • Most Fast Laps (4 of 5 rounds)
  • Most Laps Led (63 of 109 – 58%)
  • Most Heat Wins (4 of 4 rounds)
  • Most Fast Qualifiers (4 of 5 rounds)
Perfection
  • Haiden Deegan hasn’t just won four straight, he’s had four consecutive PERFECT races (Fastest Qualifiers, Heat Wins, Main Event wins and Triple Crown sweeps).
  • Christian Craig (2022) was the last rider to have 4 perfect races in a season (they were not consecutive).
  • Deegan’s Glendale was almost beyond perfect. Not only did he win qualifying, he holeshot both the heat and main event and led every single lap of racing.
  • The one blemish, was having his fastest lap taken away after the first qualifying session (failed sound).
5+ Wins in a Row

Can he add one more to the streak before the West division riders take a break!?

  • 11 riders have won 5 or more consecutive wins.
  • James Stewart is the only rider to have more than 1 season with a 5+ win streak.

All-Time 250SX Career Wins (6-21)

A fourth straight 250SX West win bumps him one spot higher on the all-time wins list where he’s locked in a tie with a big list of riders, including Ricky Carmichael and RDL’s Adam Cianciarulo.

  • 1 more win and he’s tied for 6th all-time with Brian Swink, Damon Huffman, Eli Tomac, Ernesto Fonseca and Hunter Lawrence.
  • In the Glendale post race interviews, Deegan defended his decision to stay in the 250SX division for a 4th season; before the season started he told himself: “I still have to get better in Supercross.”
  • This is the first career 4 race win streak for Haiden in SX or MX.
  • +25 after 5 rounds is a very big lead in 250SX but not the biggest: In 2004, James Stewart had a mind melting +55 lead over Broc Hepler after just 5 rounds.
  • Wins in the chart below include only championship-points-paying victories
