New Team, Same Result

By Fowlers Facts

The best riders in the world, especially in the last 25 years, continue to do extremely well immediately after a major team and bike changes. It’s particularly interesting to consider given the amount of team changes for active past champions this year (we covered this topic thoroughly in this week’s Shop Rag).

Past Champions 2025 Changes
  • Chase Sexton to Monster Energy Kawasaki (from KTM)
  • Eli Tomac to Red Bull KTM Racing (from Yamaha)
  • Jason Anderson to Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki (from Kawasaki)

Looking at the last 50 years of champions, they’ve won the title 9x in the first year with the new team/bike. It starts with Jimmy Weinert when he switched from Yamaha to Kawasaki and the latest is Eli Tomac when he won in 2022 after moving from Monster Energy Kawasaki to Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing. Maybe most interesting is 13 of 14 past champion’s changes in the last 30 years have go on to finish top 3 in the Supercross championship. Change is hard, but the best of the best are the best for a reason.

Take a look for yourself.

Team Changes & Results of Supercross Champions

*NOTE: These riders were all champions at some point in their careers. This is not only a list of riders who were champions WHEN they switched teams.

Based on history, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised if Chase Sexton, Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson or any rider who’s switched teams wins the title this season.
