Round 25: Washougal, WA’s Washougal MX Park

Opened to racing in 1971, “America’s Most Scenic Raceway” winds in and out of the giant fir trees that tower over the facility. Washougal MX Park is 30 minutes from Portland, Oregon, and lies just north of the town of Washougal, WA and a river of the same name.
- Ryan Dungey (not Ricky Carmichael!) has the most Washougal premier class victories (5)
- James Stewart is the only 125/250 rider to win three in a row at Washougal.
- Haiden Deegan was the 2023 and 2024 250MX winner.
- Kyle Lewis (12) has the most 450MX starts at Washougal. Freddie Noren and Collin Jurin both have have 11.
More info and details at the Washougal Venue History page.
450MX Facts
- Only two 450 riders have been top 10 in every single moto: Jett and Hunter Lawrence (they’ve also been top 5 every moto!)
- If Jett Lawrence (22 wins) continues his streak, he ties Jeff Ward (25) at Unadilla for 6th on the all-time premier class wins list.
- In the 28 times Jett Lawrence has been on the track in 2025 (qualifying sessions and motos), he’s been top two 22 times and top four 27 times.
- Jett Lawrence has been fastest rider on the track in 6 straight motos (Southwick, RedBud, and Spring Creek)
- Jett Lawrence has finished 1st or 2nd in 5 of 6 motos at Washougal (both classes). The first moto at Washougal on a 250 in 2021 he finished 7th.
- In M.1 at Spring Creek, Hunter Lawrence beat his brother for just the second time this season. M.2 High Point (2nd vs. 3rd is the other)
- Eli Tomac hasn’t been on the moto podium since Southwick (4 motos ago). The last time he’s been off the moto podium 4 straight was the beginning of the 2021 season when he missed the podium 5 straight motos (and, technically, it was 6 motos going back to the last moto of 2020).
- Eli Tomac has not finished worse than 2nd in a moto or overall at Washougal in the premier class (7 starts, 14 motos). More on this below.
- RJ Hampshire has finished 4th or better in 4 of the last 5 motos including a season best 3rd in M.1 at RedBud.
- Injuries are stacking up. Webb is out the rest of Pro Motocross, Plessinger has missed M2 the last two rounds, and Anderson, Savatgy, and Harlan all sat out Round 7.
250MX Facts
- Haiden Deegan (12 wins) has the same # of 250MX wins as Eli Tomac, who spent four seasons (2010-2013) in the class
- Haiden Deegan has finished 1st or 2nd in qualifying and 13 of 14 motos this season. The only moto he didn’t was RedBud M.1 when he crashed – twice.
- Haiden Deegan will attempt to become the second 250 rider (James Stewart) to win Washougal 3 straight years (Barnett, Carmichael, Emig all came up short on a third consec. win)
- Jo Shimoda hasn’t qualified better than 4th this season yet he’s finished 4th or better in 10 of 14 motos.
- Seth Hammaker was the fastest rider in M.1 at Spring Creek – the first time in his career he’s been fastest in a moto.
- Austin Forkner got his first top 10 moto finish since M.1 Ironman 2024 and top 10 overall since Budds Creek 2024.
- Injuries are stacking up here as well. Chance Hymas and Casey Cochran were out after Round 4, Ty Masterpool after Round 5, and Julien Beaumer after Round 6.

SMX Points Battle
With injuries/illness (esp. Webb, Plessinger) there’s some big shifts at the top of the SMX Points projections.
- A dismal day for Justin Cooper but he took over the SMX combined points after Spring Creek M.1 and extended it in M.2. He’s +12 over Cooper Webb
- Jett Lawrence is the big benefactor. He’s now projected to finish 2nd in the standings, up for last week’s projection of 4th.
- Chase Sexton is currently +30 points in front of Jett Lawrence, but our projections have him third, -3 points behind Jett, after the final moto of the season.
- Hunter Lawrence is now expected to finish 4th in the standings, ahead of Aaron Plessinger and Cooper Webb.
- While there’s no official word, yet, we’re forecasting Aaron Plessinger misses the next 2 rounds. He’ll drop from 3rd to 5th in the standings.
- Malcolm Stewart (currently 5th) and Eli Tomac (currently 8th) are locked in a battle with projections of 499 pts and 478 pts.
- RJ Hampshire moves from 16th to 13th in the current standings and we project he’ll finish 10th at the end of the season.
- Projection accounts for Aaron Plessinger likely missing Washougal, and maybe more. UPDATE: On July 15, KTM announced AP is OUT for Washougal.

Top 20 Cutoff
- Coty Shock is now projected to finish 19th in the standings. He currently sits 22nd.
- Benoit Paturel (24th), Valentin Guillod (23rd), Mitchell Harrison (21st), and Harris Kullas (25th) are all battling for the last spot to clinch a guaranteed spot in the playoffs.
- Benoit’s team confirmed that he’s definitely racing SMX if he makes the top 20 but if he doesn’t then they will re-evaluate.
There’s still 8 motos and 200 points to earn.
Tomac vs. Sexton: Washougal is their Best Venue
Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton have 22 Washougal MOTO starts between them and they’ve been first or second place in 21 of them. Sexton’s worst Washougal moto finish is a third.
- Washougal is both Sexton’s and Tomac’s #1 venue.
- Tomac hasn’t raced Washougal since 2022.
- Sexton won Washougal in 2023 (1-1) and has won 3 of the last 4 overalls here.

Hunter Lawrence: No Bad Days
But he’s still looking for that GREAT day. Hunter Lawrence has yet to win an overall but in 18 starts his WORST overall finish is 5th (twice), which happened at Hangtown/Thunder Valley 2025.
- Lawrence’s worst moto finish was 6th (Ironman 2024, M.2)
- Hunter is the only rider to finish top 10 in every moto run since the beginning of 2024.

And now, Hunter is just one podium behind Aaron Plessinger on a chart neither of them want to be on at all:
Most 250/450 Podiums with No Win
Jett Lawrence has Eyes On Stew
Jett Lawrence’s Spring Creek M.2 win tied him for 9th most premier class moto wins (Jeff Emig)
- 8th is just a 1-1 away and it’s James Stewart’s 41 moto wins.
- With 8 motos left in the season, Jett could pass Ken Roczen

250MX Wins As TEENAGERS
19-year-old Haiden Deegan now has 12 250MX wins and he’s tied with Eli Tomac for 13th most all-time. Two more wins and he’ll be in a 4-way tie for 8th.
What if we only counted the wins earned by teenagers?
It eliminates the riders who spent their entire careers in the 125/250 class, such as Guy Cooper, George Holland, Steve Lamson and Jeremy Martin and gives a clearer picture of the winning paces of riders like Deegan, Lawrence, Stewart, etc.

Winner, Last Time Out: Motocross
Just four riders won the final AMA Pro Motocross gate drops of their careers.

- For Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy Martin, they were pre-determined ‘swan songs’.
- Ryan Villopoto and Rick Johnson both raced Supercross the following year but never lined up for another AMA Pro Motocross event.

- Ryan Villopoto: 2014 Las Vegas Supercross, 450SX
- Jeremy Martin: Spring Creek 2025, 250MX Moto 2.
- Broc Glover: 1988 Los Angeles Supercross, 250/450SX
