A Record Breaking Night

The 2025 Foxborough Supercross was an historic night of racing that gave the series an unprecedented number of unique season winners.

With 5 rounds remaining in the Monster Energy Supercross Championship, the record for most winners in a season has been officially trounced.

  • Chance Hymas (first ever 250SX win) was the 17th different main even winner in 2025.
  • Aaron Plessinger extended that mark to 18 when he won the 450SX class (his second career win).
Most Total Winners in a Single Season

*5 rounds. remaining.

In the 450SX class, specifically, 2025 is only the third season–EVER–with 7 different winners. We’re now side-eyeing something that hasn’t happened in the lifetime of every single rider racing today: 8 winners.

  • In 1985, 8 different riders won races within the first 10 rounds of the 11-round championship. Johnny O’Mara book-ended that season with opening and closing round wins but it was Jeff Ward who won the title with a single victory.
  • 40 years later, it’s still the most winners in a single Supercross championship season.
  • Every single one of the names in column 4 of the chart below is in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Cooper Webb in Command

Lap nine at Foxborough is what championship instincts look like in action.

With one lap to go, 6th place Cooper Webb faced a 2-point loss in his championship lead.

  • Considering the conditions and two early spills in the race, he was prepared to accept his fate.
  • 1:47.5 later (the fastest lap 9 of the entire field) he crossed the finish line in 3rd and left New England with a 4-point gain in his lead.
  • “Somehow got third, I really don’t know how,” Webb was overheard saying after the race. “That was mental. I just kept jumping the jumps.”

  • On the podium: “I shut my brain off and it’s crazy what happens. You start sending it, you start finding a flow. I don’t know what happened on the last lap.”
  • After 12 rounds of action (5 to go), Webb’s 2025 season is looking eerily similar to 2021 and 2019, his two championship years (see below).

Fun Fact: In all three seasons detailed below, Webb took over the points lead IN Arlington.

Best. Day. Ever.

The abnormal track conditions in Foxborough created some atypical results.

  • Chance Hymas, Cullin Park and Gage Linville all earned their first podium on the same night, an extremely rare feat (more below)
  • 13 of the 22 riders in the 250SX main earned career best finishes.
Foxborough 2025: 250SX East Career Best Finishers

Historically, this was the first time since 2007 that a 250SX podium featured three riders who had never been top 3 before. It’s been 18 years!

  • 2007 Atlanta SX: 1. Ryan Dungey (first SX!), 2. Darcy Lange, 3. Matt Goerke
The 2007 Atlanta Supercross 250SX East podium. (l to r) Darcy Lange, Ryan Dungey and Matt Goerke.

And then we have to scroll back another 21 years to when the 125SX was just getting going.

  • 1986 Atlanta SX: 1. Keith Turpin, 2. Rick Melton, 3. Ron Tichenor
  • It happened 3 times in 1985, when the 125SX Divisions were in their very first year of existence.

Notable: Shane Mcelrath’s first ever 450SX podium increased the total # of 2025 450 podium finishers to 10 this season, matching the 2024 total.

  • This will become more historically relevant if a couple more riders join this count.
  • Here are 9 riders who haven’t been 1, 2 or 3 in 2025.

Grandpa Earl Dean Wilson Returns

As an entertainer, Dean Wilson has already won.

In the ultimate April-Fools-to-reality stunt/prank/adventure, he brought his 85-year-old alter ego, Grandpa Earl out of the old folks home to earn a fill-in ride with Honda HRC Progressive for the final 5 rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

250SX East: All Tied Up (and Tight)

To avoid burying the lead, the 15 point gap between 1st and 5th is the closest top 5 title fight in 250SX Divisional History.

Top 5 Points Gap After 6 Rounds – 125/250 History
  • If we told you that two riders who didn’t see the podium until round 3 would be co-leading the 250SX East points after round 6, you probably wouldn’t have believed us. But here we are.
  • Co-leader Tom Vialle started the season with 5-4 finishes
  • Co-leader Seth Hammaker started the season with 4-17 finishes
  • Philadelphia will be Hammaker’s first ever time with a red plate (Philly is 100 miles east of Hammaker’s hometown, Bainbridge, PA).
  • RJ Hampshire is in 3rd (-2).

  • Chance Hymas, who admittedly said he had shifted his focus to Pro Motocross testing, is 4th (-8)
  • Cullin Park (5th), who hadn’t finished top five EVER until Foxborough, is -15. He’s the only rider to finish top 15 in each 250SX round this season.
  • Even Nate Thrasher (6th) is still in this. He’s -18
  • Another quirky stat from this bizarre season: Vialle and Hammaker each have 99 pts. which happens to be the fewest points scored after 6 rounds since 1985, when the 125/250 Division was new and Bobby Moore/Todd Campbell shared the lead.

East/West Showdown: Part Deux

The second (of three) 250SX E/W Showdowns is going down in Philly.

  • Seth Hammaker (East) holeshot and led all 19 laps of the 2025 Indianapolis E/W Showdown on March 8.
  • It was Hammaker’s second career win, four years after his first career win.
  • Tom Vialle (East) took over the points lead in Indianapolis with a second place finish.
  • Haiden Deegan (3rd) was the top finishing West rider.

Showdown Shakeup

Showdowns can have major championship implications, when one division riders can put the other division between him and his competitors.

  • That didn’t really happen in Indianapolis; East went 1-2 and West went 3-4.
  • The rider most negatively affected at Indianapolis was Max Anstie, who finished 7th and lost the points lead to Vialle. Anstie broke his leg at the following round and is out of the Supercross title fight.
  • Imagine this: Chance Hymas would be the points leader right now if he hadn’t crashed on the final lap of the Indianapolis Showdown. He was running in 11th when he landed on a Tuff Block on the downside of the over/under tabletop.
250SX Notables
  • Haiden Deegan is the only remaining 250SX rider (East or West) to finish top five in all rounds of his championship series.
  • Deegan has 6 podiums. The next closest in podium count is 3: Beaumer, Davies, Smith, Vialle, Hampshire
  • 6 different winners in 6 rounds in the 125/250 East division (there has NEVER been 7 different winners in a 250SX season)
  • 5 different winners in 6 rounds in the 125/250 West division

Showdown Fun Facts
  • This weekend’s event will be the 63rd E/W Showdown since 1985, when the 125 class was integrated into the series.
  • West: 34 wins
  • East: 28 wins
  • Seven different riders have won the last seven Showdowns.
  • 2025 has three Showdown events. 1989-1991 and 1996 are the only other years with three Showdowns.
  • The 2024 Showdown winners: RJ Hampshire (Nashville) and Haiden Deegan at the Salt Lake City season finale.
  • The last rider to win two consecutive showdowns: Adam Cianciarulo (Las Vegas, 2018-Atlanta 2019)
  • Amongst current 250SX riders, RJ Hampshire (11) has the most Showdown starts. Hampshire could tie Mike Brown (13) for second most all-time if he races Philly and Salt Lake City.

Milestones

450 Milestones

  • RJ Hampshire currently has 72 starts
  • Austin Forkner (13) is in a multi-way tie for 3rd on the all-time most 250SX wins list. A 14th win would give him sole possession of 3rd.
