Fast Fact: 2024 SX+MX Rider Purse Earnings

By Fowlers Facts

The purse and title bonus total is $10 million for the entire 31-round season of racing (both classes). That’s the best purse money this sport has ever seen. By far.

Almost half of that has already been paid out, so what did the riders earn in the eight months/28 races leading into the three weekend SuperMotocross Championship sprint that starts in Charlotte and ends in Las Vegas with a spin around Fort Worth in between?

That’s where the rest of the money is earned: the $4.2 million in bonuses distributed to riders who finish in the top 22 SMX. And there’s also $400,000 per SMX round up for grabs between the two classes.

Despite only competing in 22 of the 28 Jett Lawrence tops this chart with $267,000 earned from winning 12 of those 22 starts.

To be clear, this is strictly what he won from the race promoters, not his salary or bonuses from American Honda, Red Bull and other sponsors/endorsements.

The guy bought a Rolls Royce Mansory Cullinan after last year’s 22-0 perfect 450MX season; we’re not sure if those are his stacks of $10K-banded-Benjamins in this video but we do know that $3,000 per Pro Motocross moto win won’t buy him a Rolls.

The $267,000 earned in 2024 (again, so far) is broken down into 3 components:

  • Supercross Race Purses: $144,000. This is what he earned from Feld Motorsports across 17 starts, including eight wins and 10 podiums.
  • Supercross Championship Fund: $100,000. This is the title bonus from Feld Motorsports for winning the 2024 Supercross championship.
  • Pro Motocross Race Purses: $24,000. Earned from MX Sports across his 1o moto starts (paid per moto) which included six moto wins, two second place finishes and his 24-6 at Hangtown.

For each of those eight Supercross wins he took home $14,000 and not surprising, it’s a lot less when you don’t win. When he finished a season worst 9th in the mud of San Francisco, he only took home $2,900. It pays to be the best.

In Pro Motocross, when he went 2-1 for 1st overall, he earned $5,250 in purse money ($2,250 for second in moto 1 and $3,000 for winning moto 2).

It’s not quite as lucrative as Supercross, but that’s the challenge without a title sponsor for the Pro Motocross series.

Here’s what the rest of the top 30 450 riders have earned entering the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship Finals. Scroll down for the 250 riders.

No surprise to see Haiden Deegan top the list of 250 riders (and he ranks 9th when you combine the classes) considering he finished 2nd in the 250 East Supercross championship and won the 250 Pro Motocross championship.

He had eight wins and 14 podiums, the most of any 250 rider this season – not bad for his sophomore season. That $76,000 dollars breaks down as follows…

  • Supercross Race Purses: $33,900 dollars across 10 starts including three wins and 6 podiums. He earned $6,000 each for those wins but $2,050 for his season worst 16th at the opening round in Detroit.
  • Pro Motocross Race Purses: $41,660 across 11 starts. It pays to win. When he swept the motos at the opening round at Fox Raceway in Pala, California he earned $5K ($2,500 per moto win), but he netted only $3,180 when he went 11-1 at the season finale at Ironman Raceway.

While it’s not surprising to see Haiden Deegan top the list, it is surprising to see a rider like Dilan Schwartz who finished 21st in the SuperMotocross standings earn just $12,810 in the 2024 Pro Motocross series.

He had a career best 10-6 for 5th overall at Spring Creek, but racing only the outdoors definitely limited his purse earnings potential. Take a look below to see how much purse money the best 250 riders have earned in 2024.
